의.치대를 제외하고 인터뷰를 꼭 해야하는 하는 학교는 케임브리지와 옥스퍼드 입니다. 그 외 대학중 임페리얼이 인터뷰를 하는 학과도 있습니다. 임페리얼 인터뷰의 경우, 케임브리지나 옥스퍼드 처럼 어렵지 않습니다.
케임브리지, 옥스퍼드 주요학과의 인터뷰때 질문하는 문제들에 대해 알려드리겠습니다.
University of Cambridge
케임브리지 대학의 인터뷰는 오퍼를 받는데 아주 중요한 요소입니다. 아무리 A-level/IB 점수가 좋아도 인터뷰를 못하면 오퍼를 받을 수 없습니다. 인터뷰가 중요한 만큼, 평소 기본 실력 실력을 잘 다져두고, 인터뷰 오퍼를 받으면 제대로 준비를 잘 해서 인터뷰에 참석해야합니다.
학생들마다 인터뷰때 받는 문제들은 다릅니다. 하지만 대부분의 문제들은 학과별로 비슷한 유형으로 나옵니다. 자기소개서나 제출된 에세이(만약 에세이를 사전에 제출하는 칼리지의 경우)에 대해 물어봅니다.
학과마다 다르지만, 대부분의 경우 2번의 인터뷰를 합니다. 각 인터뷰는 20~45분 정도 합니다. 인터뷰는 크게 general interview 와 academic interview 로 나누어집니다.
General interview 는 자기소개서의 내용에 대해 질문하거나, Why Cambridge? Why this subject? 또는 미래에 뭘 하고 싶은지에 대한 질문등을 합니다. General interview 의 예상 질문은 답변은 미리 준비가 가능합니다.
Academic interview 가 전공 관련한 질문들을 합니다. 이 인터뷰가 어려우며, 준비하기가 쉽지 않습니다. 하지만 어떤 스타일의 질문을 하는지 사전에 숙지하여 준비를하면 실제 인터뷰에서 많은 도움이 됩니다.
여기에 소개할 인터뷰 문제는 academic interview이며,학생들이 실제로 인터뷰떄 질문 받은 내용입니다.주요 학과 위주로 간단하게 소개해드리겠습니다.
Economics
- Asked various questions about globalisation (such as a definition for it and the issues surrounding it)
- Why are rich countries rich and poor countries poor?
- Would more doctors or more lawyers be better in the world?
- How do you measure happiness?
- Asked about the WTO and its implications on political systems in capitalist and socialist systems.
- What factors do you think influence consumption patterns?
그 외 수학 미, 적분 문제, 그래프 그리는 문제등을 인터뷰에서 질문 하곤 합니다.
Engineering
- Come up with a rule for nth derivative of 1/x
- Draw graph of e.g. (2x+3)/(x^2+1)
- Argon and Helium, same amount of moles, both heated, which moves more quickly?
- Why is copper red and aluminium white(ish)?
- How do metals conduct heat?
- Why do aeroplanes tilt to turn corners?
- If you had a cylinder, sealed at both ends, with the pressure rising inside, would it blow at the end or split along the side first?
학과 특성상 수학, 물리 위주로 질문을 합니다.
Mathematics
- Sketch y=x^2/(x^2-2x-3)
- Sketch y=x^x
- How many zeros at the end of 30!.
- Draw graphs of:y=sin(1/x), y=x*sin(1/x), y=(x^3)sin(1/x)
- Prove for a 3 digit number that if the sum of the digits is a multiple of 3, the 3 digit number is a multiple of 3.
- Prove that root 2 is irrational number
- Prove 1+1/2+1/3+...+1/1000<10.
- What is the integral of x squared multipied by the cosine of x cubed?
- How many squares can be made from a grid of ten by ten dots (ignore diagonal squares)?
수학 문제 외에도 물리나 물리와 연관 된 Mechanics 문제도 질문을 한다네요.
Medicine
- Why doyou want to become a doctor and what the positives and negatives of life as a doctor?
- How is blood returned to the heart?
- What is negative feedback? Give an example of negative feedback. Explain the antagonistic roles of insulin and glucagon.
- What is an isotope? Why are some isotopes unstable? What radioactive particles does the tritium isotope emit?
- What disease in the UK is the biggest killer?
- What diseases are associated with obesity? What cancers are associated with obesity? Why? What causes diabetes?
- Various pictures (a brain scan, a LM of small intestine, an EM of a pancreas cell) were shown and interviewers asked questions about them, and then on the theory and principles behind them - e.g. protein structure and synthesis for the pancreatic one.
- What are links between cancer and stem cells? How does a cell know when to die? How does a DNA signal tell a cell to die.
- Which of these organs do you think it would be easiest to transplant? Why? Which would be the most difficult? Why?
- What are the main problems associated with the NHS? How could we combat these problems?
